CROSSING THE THRESHOLD

"Crossing the Threshold" installation piece was produced in conversation with the "Wavering Between" project. For both projects, subjects were foreigners/immigrants/first generation Americans. “Wavering Between” uses a hauntological approach to depict the liminality of diasporic individuals, in the manner of a ghost, to accentuate the fading of their social and cultural past. Whereas "Crossing the Threshold" uses a plexiglass and resin floating map of the homelands of my subjects. Each country is suspended from the ceiling and hung a foot away from the wall, under strategic lighting, to create double shadows to emphasize the duality of the liminal entities' existence. Furthermore the translucency of the map ties back to the liminality of the individuals.
